In 1979, when Gerald F. Kein founded the OMNI Hypnosis Training Center in Florida, USA, he did not know that he would sustainably change the world of hypnosis. As a 13-year old he already learnt directly from Dave Elman, the probably most significant hypnotist of the 20th century.
First of all, hypnosis is a completely natural state every person is familiar with, but it is not always perceived as such. Since the early years Sumerians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used this state in ceremonies and for healing processes. It was not used as targeted as we are able to do it today, but nevertheless they used it in a very conscious way.
Just like the waking state and the sleeping state, there is a third state for people: hypnosis. Hypnosis is often described as an intermediate state between the sleeping and the waking state. But this does not always apply. There are very active states in hypnosis which the outside perceives as wide awake because a hypnotized person shows emotions, talks, maybe his/her eyes are open or the person moves around even though he/she is in a very deep state of hypnosis.
